General

In what language are the classes taught?

Our vehicular languages are Catalan and Spanish. Classes are taught in Catalan as long as all students or teacher speak it. Otherwise, they are given in Spanish. The Hybrid Degree in Professional Illustration is always taught in Spanish.

Do I have to bring my computer or any other material?

No. The school makes available to each student an Apple computer with a 22-inch graphics tablet to work in class. He also provides iPads and Apple Pencil for classes where they are needed. The material not provided is that of traditional drawing, such as a drawing pad, pencil, rubber, colors, etc. What is required for the anatomy sessions with a natural model, outings to draw with a sketchbook and some children's workshops.

Will I need a computer with a graphics tablet at home to do work?

It is not essential to start, but if you want to be an illustrator you will need to have your own studio at home. In addition to the fact that you will need it to complete some class work. From the school we can give you advice on the most suitable material for you. An average quality personal computer with a €300/€400 graphics tablet will allow you to work great for many years.

Is there a discount for large or single-parent families?

We offer a discount of 50% on tuition for accredited students with a large or single-parent family card, under 26 years of age in the Bridge Course and Degree in Professional Illustration (face-to-face and hybrid). This discount does not apply to the rest of the courses.

What other scholarships and grants are there?

Do you admit foreign students?

Yes. Both in face-to-face and hybrid mode. Once the enrollment process is complete, we will provide you with the certificate so that you can manage the student visa.

Bridge Course

Who is it for?

To those who do not have, nor do not reach the age of 18 in the year of registration. The minimum age for access to the bridging course is 16 years.

Is there an online modality in the Bridge course?

No. There is only face-to-face modality in the morning shift.

Does the bridging course guarantee a subsequent place in the Degree in Professional Illustration?

Yes. You will only have to confirm the place before January 30.

Will the registration for the Puente course help me for the Degree in Professional Illustration?

Yes. Tuition is paid only once, so you won't have to pay it again.

Although the bridging course is in the morning, could I do the Degree in Professional Illustration in the afternoon or intensive?

Yes. Puente course students have priority when choosing the shift
where they will continue their studies.

What is the enrollment period?

Are open doors held?

Between January and May we hold several informational open house sessions. Those of the Bridge course coincide with those of the Degree in Professional Illustration and will take place on Saturdays January 28, February 18, March 25 and April 22.
If you want to attend one, register in the corresponding section of this same web page, selecting the date and specifying if you will come with a companion.

I have tried to enroll from the web and only the Waiting List option appears, what does it mean?

This is because the available places for the course have been exhausted. We recommend that you also make your reservation for the waiting list, since if any of the other reservations are not completed within the established period, we will notify you so that you can continue with yours. The waiting list maintains the registration order, so if you are one of the first on the list you will have many more options. If you do not finally get the place, we will refund the full amount of your reservation.

Degree in Professional Illustration face-to-face modality

Are there access requirements?

Be at least 18 years old or complete the same year of registration.
We do not do an entrance test to join the 1st year of the Degree in Professional Illustration, nor are previous studies required.

If I am under 18 years old, can I do the Degree in Professional Illustration?

For those under 18 years of age we have enabled the Bridge course, which can be accessed from the age of 16. Its duration is 1 year in all cases and it works on drawing and color fundamentals, both with traditional and digital tools with iPad and Procreate. From the Bridge course you will have access to the guaranteed Degree in Professional Illustration.

What is the Advanced Pass?

The Degree in Professional Illustration is made up of two cycles: during the first 2 years, the fundamentals and techniques of illustration are studied in depth, and in the following 2 years, specific specialties and professional applications of illustration within the industry. The Advanced Pass allows direct access to the second cycle, that is, to the 3rd year of the Degree in Professional Illustration.

Degree in Professional Illustration Online

What do I need to follow the classes remotely?

Computer and graphic tablet, as well as suitable software for drawing, such as Photoshop or Clip Studio.
You can also work with iPad and Procreate or similar. You will need to have an internet connection and keep in mind that the class schedules are in Spanish time. Check the time difference if it is the case.

How can I enroll in this online modality?

You have to follow the same steps as in the face-to-face mode.

Do I have to pay registration?

The hybrid modality has a reduced registration fee of €250.

Do they do open houses?

On Saturdays, January 28 and May 20 at 6:00 p.m., we offer an informative talk on streaming about the Hybrid Degree in Professional Illustration and the Online Diploma in Illustration. If you want to attend, you can register in the corresponding section of this website.

If I have enrolled online, will I be able to go face-to-face in the future?

There is no problem as long as there is a place available in class. You will have to pay the difference in registration since the online modality has a reduced registration, and notify us with a little time so that we can organize everything.

What happens if I can't attend a class? Are the classes recorded?

We do not record the classes, so if you cannot attend one, you will have to ask the teacher in the next class or a classmate to catch up, in the same way that it would happen if you were a face-to-face student.

Is there any scholarship or aid for foreign students?

We do not have any specific scholarship for students from outside Spain.

Online Diploma in Illustration

What is the minimum age to take the course?

16 years

What will I need to do the course?

You can do all the exercises in the traditional way, on paper, although it is a program designed mainly to work digitally. So you will need a computer with an internet connection, graphics tablet and drawing software, such as Photoshop, Clip Studio, Paint Tool SAI, Krita, etc. You can also work on an iPad with Procreate or similar.

Is it mandatory to follow the order of the blocks?

No. You can make the blocks you want and in the order you prefer.

How many hours are needed to complete the course?

You will need approximately 800 hours to complete all the exercises in the 4 blocks of the Online Diploma in Illustration. These are exercises that we also do in the Professional Illustration Degree in face-to-face mode and this is the time that students usually take in class. But there are faster artists and others who are not so fast, so it will also depend on your work rate. In any case, this is a relative figure and our advice is to worry more about quality than speed. Take all the time you need.

How do I submit my works?

We use the Google Classroom platform. In Classroom you will deliver the finished exercises and the teachers will receive them. We will also use them to send you work files and corrections.

What are mentorships?

Mentorships are one-on-one video calls where the teachers will share feedback on your exercises and you can ask them anything you need.

How long are the mentorships?

1 hour approximately.

What happens if I am doing an exercise and I have any questions?

If this happens, you can move on to another of the exercises in the block and take advantage of the following mentoring to answer any questions you may have. Remember that you have 6 mentorships in each block.

Can I schedule some extra mentoring in case I need it?

In principle you will not need it. But you can always ask us at admin@escolaiboix.com and we will add it to your account. The cost of extra mentoring is €95.

Is there a maximum or minimum term to complete the course?

There is no minimum term. If you dedicate many hours a day, you will obviously reduce the estimated deadlines.
If you do the complete Online Diploma in Illustration, that is, the 4 blocks, you will have 24 months from the date of purchase to schedule the mentoring.
If you hire the blocks individually you will have 5 months to do the 6 corresponding mentoring sessions.

Can I buy the course for someone else?

Yes. When you finish the purchase process, together with the billing details, you will find an additional information section where you can tell us the details of the person who is going to do the course.
